Carolyn Kelley

Using markers, colored pencils, and watercolors, Carolyn’s work evolves in layers of impulsive mark-making and washes. Being process-oriented and also using art as a tool for processing the inner world and bringing it out, Carolyn’s work becomes a testament of moments of thought, feeling, and sensory experience.

Artist’s Statement

I like to make art because it makes me feel good, my pictures tell a story about the way I feel and the things that I see in my life.

It’s very complicated, there’s a lot of different things going on. My work is mostly abstract, with many designs and layers of colors. I also draw white horses, aliens, puppies, windows, whistles and tents. Sometimes I draw Denise’s dog Tucker.

Usually I write words on my drawings, like “hold”, “puppies”, “pedigree”, and “boys” –anything I am thinking about on that day. Sometimes the words are large and clear, and sometimes they are hidden underneath colors. I am interested in learning how to write with calligraphy.

My goal is to work with acrylic paints someday. Right now I use markers, watercolors, and colored pencils. Cardboard is usually what I draw on, but I also like to draw on photos in magazines and pictures printed out from the internet. I love animals, especially dogs and ferrets. Tucker the dog always makes me smile, he loves me because I give him treats.
