Danny remains devoted to presidents, dinosaurs, and superheroes, subjects that have been near to his heart for some time. Recently he has been complementing his flat simple shapes and tonally even colors with various patterns and textures in the background. Danny paints his subjects without creating a sketch or drawing his lines with pencil on the canvas ahead of time. Occasionally he works from photographs, but mostly portrays his subjects from memory.
Artist’s Statement
Art is a fun thing to do. It makes me feel comfortable. I like to do the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, presidents, dinosaurs, animals, Spiderman, Batman, Power Rangers. These things are fun to me and I like the way they look. I do animals, dinosaurs, and presidents because when I look at pictures of them first, I want to paint them. Also, because presidents are important in American history.
I do brush strokes for the background and draw the figure from memory. Then I write on the words, like in my president series. I like using paints, pastel crayons, markers, colored pencils. I also use mechanics crayons, they are made in Korea. I like to make art with these things.
I like to work neatly on both large and small paintings.
