Ronnie has been mixing it up quite a bit lately. In the Fall she worked with markers and stencils, continuing her Different Colored Lines series, but putting very simplified and hand-colored letters and animal silhouettes in the center of her composition. In the Winter and Spring she experimented with cutting out paper and created different colored squares of paper to be the elements that surround her central figures. Since then she’s gone back to putting the ladies in the middle but is using different colored lines, different colored squares, and different sections of color around the figure. Ronnie continues to be a highly prolific, imaginative artist, and an inspiration to the rest of the artists at Arts of Life.
Artist’s Statement
I’m Ronnie. I’m okay. I’m nice, and cute, kinda funny. I’m a nice lady, yea! I’m an artist all the way through. I paint a lot. I do a good job on it. I make babydolls out of clay, because I know how to make them. Being an artist is smart, it’s pretty good. (At my station) records on the record machine. It plays real well. I like country music, and rock n’ roll and Elvis Presley. I’m 78 Because I’m older than they are. Indeed I am. Sometimes they call me Grandma. It’s kinda funny, but they like me, they love me.
Do you ever glue the ladies on the cardboard? See, I do that. I just look through the magazines and rip them out, magazine photos of ladies. I glue them on the cardboard, then I put the black marker on, then I do different colors with oil pastel. It’s easy.
All kinds of different pictures on the board, some are big and some are small. Oh yeah, I draw baby dolls too.
Do you ever make the bodies of dolls? I did once. I roll clay to make heads and hands and feet, and put holes in them to tie it together. Then you have to put the clay in the oven and make it brown. And then paint it with the brush. Paint all different colors and sell the dolls. I glue real hair on their heads from my hair cut!
Oh yeah, I’m a good artist. My art is okay. I like to play on the keyboard too, and I like all different kinds of country music while I draw.
